As part of the Indo-Norwegian project MADICE, a 122 m long ice core was retrieved from the central DML region (location: 70.18 S and 9.18 E; elevation: 321 m a.s.l.). We performed line-scan imaging and isotopic and chemical analyses of the top 50 m section of the ice core. The line-scan images were used to assess Visual Stratigraphy as a proxy for annual layer counting in the firn section and to calculate melt history. We show that the age-depth model based on the reconstructed VS profile revealed an excellent match with identified time-markers within an uncertainty of 2 years
